19 Obvious Signs of Disrespect in a Relationship

Respect is a fundamental aspect of any healthy relationship, whether it's with a friend, family member, colleague, or romantic partner. It is through respect that we feel appreciated.

The lack of basic respect for each other puts an end to any relationship. It's better to pay attention to these signs right away and not waste your time and energy on people who don't deserve it. 19 Signs that Someone Doesn't Respect You:

- You are not being heard or listened to. A person can afford to interrupt you and start talking about themselves.

- Your personal boundaries are ignored. A person can take your things without permission or tell your secrets, and they can continue to actively persuade you to do something even after you refuse.

- You are constantly criticized. A person may make unreasonable negative comments about your appearance, intelligence, and so on.

- You are not supported. The person remains indifferent to your success, and your goals are unimportant to him.

- Breaking promises. A person only talks all the time, but never does anything.

- You are being treated with disdain. The person considers your problems and worries unworthy of his attention.

- Lack of appreciation. A person always takes your contribution for granted and rarely says a banal "thank you."

- Your emotions are belittled. The person downplays the importance of your emotions, tells you how you should feel, or even accuses you of experiencing certain emotions.

- You are being manipulated. A person instills in you a sense of guilt, engages in gaslighting, arranges emotional swings and the like.

- Lack of reciprocity. The person expects you to try your best for them, rarely reciprocating the same level of effort or attention.

- Public humiliation. The person deliberately puts you in an awkward position in front of other people, believing that this is a harmless joke.

- Ignoring your opinion. A person makes important decisions without you, belittles your ideas, or neglects your expertise in a particular field.

- Neglecting your time. A person can often be late for meetings, keep you waiting, or cancel plans at the last minute.

- Lack of empathy for your pain and problems.

- You are being discredited. The person undermines your authority, questions your decisions, challenges your experience, and so on.

- Violation of your privacy. A person can go through your personal belongings, read your messages, or invade your personal space.

- Episodic respect. If a person shows respect for you only sporadically or depending on their mood, it indicates a lack of genuine respect.

- Patronizing behavior. A person talks down to you, uses a humiliating tone, explains something unnecessarily, or acts as if they know better than you.

- Lack of responsibility. A person can shift their blame onto you, justify themselves, or deny any wrongdoing.
