Mood is a set of emotions that form the general background of an individual's activity and his mental processes. Without directly affecting human activity, it serves as the foundation of a person's condition, which ultimately leads to various reactions that indirectly affect productivity, efficiency, and overall well-being.
Mood Construction
There are three stages of the formation of an individual's condition. At the first stage, we encounter emotions. For example, we suddenly felt funny, upset, scared, or upset. But within a few hours, each person is capable of encountering several, sometimes completely different emotions. They all intertwine with each other like paints and we get a certain consistency at the output. For example, you are very bored, while a friend called and cheered you up, the failure to cook soup added disappointment, and the rainy weather blurred the overall picture with sadness. This compote of emotions is the mood. Staying in the same mood for a long time puts pressure on the psyche. She has to adjust to the context in which the individual exists. Adaptive functions and defensive reactions are triggered. After a while, the third stage will come, following the emotion and mood, we will fix the state. For example, apathy or optimism, happiness, depression, and so on. That's how it goes. By the way, do not forget that depression is a psychiatric diagnosis, do not confuse it with apathy. What is the mood made of?
The theory described above is extremely important in understanding the topic under discussion. Many people believe that mood is one single emotion and therefore, trying to change something, they want to block it with another emotion. If you are sad, then you want to have fun, if you feel complete indifference to everything, then there is a desire to shake yourself up somehow. Now I'll explain why it doesn't work that way. Mood, as mentioned at the beginning of the text, is a set of emotions. Each of them has a source. That's where a person makes two mistakes at once. Firstly, it does not eliminate the sources of negatively colored emotions, which means that it does not actually affect the mood in any way. Secondly, in order for one emotion to overcome the whole complex, it must be very strong. Even if someone (or something) is able to do this, the individual will become addicted. You know the stories when a girl can't imagine life without a certain guy? Or a guy without a girlfriend. Obviously, it was the partner who became the source of strong emotions (not always positive, more often the opposite). They change the mood and the psyche experiences euphoria, but the loss of the source becomes a terrible dream. Congratulations, you're tied up! Diversification is a term from economics, but it fits perfectly in our case. When you eat from different sources, dependence on one of them is minimized. But if you regularly experience a bad mood, which has obviously already turned into a state, and then you try to fix the situation with one source, the path to severe addiction becomes the most likely. Love or drugs, it doesn't matter anymore, but it's definitely going to happen. Therefore, if you suddenly think that the mood is some kind of fleeting nonsense, then I advise you to change your mind. There is a serious danger lurking here. You may have heard stories that a man is very rich, successful, has achieved fame and recognition, has many beautiful women and expensive cars, but he does not feel happy. Or suddenly he starts to get drunk, or he sits down on a forbidden one. There is nothing unusual here. Happiness is a state that arose on the basis of mood, and it, in turn, on the emotions experienced. Now imagine that he has 10 sources of negatively colored, traumatic or unpleasant emotions. And the positive ones come from just one thing, like money. Can his mood be good and stable? Of course not. A person will try to fix something, but it is impossible to block 10 sources with one or two. You need too much money, but at a certain point it will stop pleasing you. We need even more! If you are blocked by fame and recognition, then one day it will end (or the volume will decrease) and you will go to look for a replacement. But only addiction can give such strong emotions that one outshines 10. Here is a curious mechanism that resembles a vicious circle without a chance to get out of it alive. However, it is actually possible to deal with a bad mood, and for this we need a little more psychological theory.
What should I do if I'm in a bad mood?
And so, a bad mood signals that an avalanche of negatively colored emotions has descended on you. Each of them has a source. If this lasts for several days, weeks, and God forbid months, then the psyche will go into a negative state. Therefore, it is very important to find out if you are in a bad mood or if you are already talking about a condition. In any case, the mechanism of action will be the same, but the timing and tools will be different. Everything is really bad if the source is not external factors, such as bad news, but physiology. Hormonal failure can cause so much trouble that you will have to sort them out in the ward under the supervision of a psychotherapist. It's a little easier if you're surrounded by toxic people or trapped in mind-scrolling. Then you need to start with isolation, just distance yourself from everything that upsets and upsets you. Digital detox works extremely effectively. Already at this stage, you will feel improvements. Next, go through the list. Mental impact
Start walking, preferably through the woods and at a brisk pace for 40-50 minutes daily. The tea ceremony and pleasant sounds, such as classical music or the crackling of the fireplace, allow you to recycle the negative. All this becomes a source of neutral, light emotions that will dilute your mood. Another great recycling method is speech. If you are a grandmother and you have the same friends, you can gossip and discuss the lives of all the stars of show business. It really works very well, even though it doesn't sound very right. Ideally, go to a psychologist and talk things out there. It is important that someone listens to you without accusations, condemnations and devaluation. Social impact
Man is a social animal. We are able to survive alone and adapt well to isolation, but this cannot last long. It is the environment that becomes a source of emotions that may be lacking, which leads to a decrease in mood. Go visit, call your relatives, meet your friends, try to get to know someone. Without any purpose, just chat. The main thing is that your interlocutors do not burden you with negativity, but behave neutrally. Cheerful people and optimists are excellent at "healing", their stories act as a balm for the soul. Sensory impact
The psyche receives external signals in various ways. These are vision, hearing, and tactile sensations. If your mood has gone down somewhere, then you have most likely "hooked" unwanted sources. Stay in silence, turn off the TV, admire something beautiful and relaxing (a great opportunity to go to a museum), take off your clothes and walk around the house naked. Add skin creams. People like to see the results of their work, but only until it becomes a job. That's why it's so important to have a hobby and realize your creative potential. Maybe you can draw or sing, maybe you write poetry or short stories. Someone makes crafts out of wood, someone embroider. Everything you can do and love to do is fine. Negativity is disposed of through activity, and positively colored emotions dilute the composition of emotions, changing the mood.
Spiritual and physical impact
Everyone has their own preferences here, let's just list everything that works. It can be meditation or prayer, yoga or reading affirmations. All this is a source of neutral emotions with a positive color. They do not drive into dependence, do not lead to attachment, and at the same time do not put a heavy burden on the psyche. As a result, a state will arise in which anxiety will be absent, and the resources of consciousness will no longer be spent on self-eating. Sports, physical intimacy with a partner, massage, and quality sleep directly affect mood from the physiological side. If the state of health is satisfactory and the hormones are not naughty, then very soon the state of health will improve dramatically. And the mood will naturally become manageable. You don't have to always be joyful, it's even harmful, you only need one thing - so that the mood doesn't change too often, it must be stable. If necessary, it will be enough for you to add motivation to start getting seriously active. But if you don't need it, you can easily stay in a stable and even mood without feeling sad, sad, longing, despair and all that other stuff. Instead of the total
I will try to summarize all of the above. Every emotion has a source. When he appears on the horizon, the psyche gives the reaction that it considered adequate in this case. It's like driving over bumps in a car, where the suspension works out every bump, and the human psyche is engaged in this function. If the impact is too strong, you will have to go to the service, but if the "shock absorbers" are stable enough and the pit is small, then you will easily survive the collision. A series of experienced emotions accumulates in the mind, forming a single matter. This is the mood. It serves as a background for the individual's activities. When there are more positive emotions in the overall composition, you can be active, positive, and self-confident. When there are more negative ones, you feel indifference, weakness, lack of desires and needs. The mood changes periodically. Imagine a bucket into which various paints are constantly being poured. We have overdone the yellow ones and the liquid will be yellow. They added blue and the color starts to change. It's the same here. In a normal situation, changes occur smoothly, without swinging. Everything is bad if your mood changes dramatically during the day. So it's time to look for sources that unsettle you and have too much impact. As a rule, it is either an object of dependence, or hormones. When the mood does not change for too long and remains the same for many months, plus or minus, the psyche captures this state. This is how prolonged apathy or, conversely, cheerfulness develops. We are faced with an optimist or a pessimist, a toxic person or a positive kindhearted person. Self-confident, or a walking failure. If the reason is hormones or neurotransmitters, then you can easily get an appointment with a psychiatrist with severe depression. Don't underestimate the mood. It serves as a marker of all subsequent problems of the individual. You can use it to understand what's going on and where it's all going to lead. It is also important to remember that good and bad moods are determined individually, that is, this is a subjective assessment. The psychologist looks at two factors. The first is the frequency of mood changes. The second is the diversification of sources and the possibility of getting rid of each one without harm to the general state of the psyche. Simply put, if your mood is strongly dependent on a partner who is effortlessly rocking you on an emotional swing, then therapy is already needed. If you are rocking yourself on this swing, without the influence of others, then it's time to visit an endocrinologist. It often happens that a person idealizes a companion, but in fact it turns out that the addict simply has no other joys in life. Or it seems to a woman that her husband deliberately pisses her off, and then a blood test shows an excess of the hormone t4. They thought about one thing, but the reason was hidden in a completely different direction. And thanks to mood analysis, it is possible to find it.
